Rosario cleared waivers after being designated for assignment. He’ll remain in the organization.

This move clears out a roster spot for trade acquisition Edward Olivares, who will make his Royals debut on Thursday night. Rosario had allowed three earned runs on seven hits and three walks in 3 1/3 innings (four relief appearances) so far this season with Kansas City. He could pass through waivers unclaimed.

Rosario was a waiver claim of the Royals last season. He’ll give them another southpaw in the bullpen.

It’s not clear at this point how long Rosario will be sidelined.

Rosario was designated for assignment by the Cubs on Sunday to clear room on the 40-man roster for Nico Hoerner. He’s appeared in 59 MLB games, and holds a 5.13 ERA in that time. He could have a chance to pitch over the final two weeks, and compete for a spot as a left-hander in the Kansas City bullpen in 2020.

The 24-year-old southpaw has struggled in his eight appearances out of the Cubs’ bullpen, registering a 6.43 ERA and 1.86 WHIP across seven innings. Dillon Maples will take his spot in the Cubs’ bullpen for the time being.

Rosario will return to the Cubs’ bullpen ahead of Tuesday night’s series opener against the Dodgers. He had a 5.14 ERA over his first seven relief appearances with Chicago this season.
