Elías will earn $1 million in his new contract and will remain in Korea for at least one more season. The 35-year-old last appeared in the big leagues in 2022, posting a 3.52 ERA and 1.30 WHIP across seven appearances with the Mariners.

Elías will earn $540,000 for the 2023 season and will aim to rebuild his value overseas after failing to make the Cubs’ season-opening roster earlier this year. The 34-year-old lefty made seven relief appearances last year for the Mariners.

Elías and Tauchman were both in camp this spring as non-roster invitees after signing minor league contracts.

Elías made it back to the majors this season with the Mariners for the first time since the 2019 campaign after undergoing Tommy John elbow reconstructive surgery just prior to the 2021 campaign. The 34-year-old veteran southpaw posted a serviceable 3.52 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 6/3 K/BB ratio across 7 2/3 innings (seven appearances) for Seattle. He’ll likely have to settle for a minor league contract this offseason.

Elias could have become a free agent since he cleared waivers after being designated for assignment, but the southpaw will remain with the Rainiers instead. He could help the Mariners before the end of the year, but will have to be added to the 40-man roster.

Elias was designated for assignment on Monday and passed through waivers unclaimed. The veteran left-handed reliever had allowed three runs on seven hits and three walks in 7 2/3 innings this year with Seattle.

Elías has made just seven relief appearances this season for the Mariners after being brought up from Triple-A Tacoma back on May 27. The 33-year-old lefty should generate some interest on waivers in the coming days.

Elías made one appearance for the Marliners earlier this month and is now back for another go-round. He’s taking Drew Steckenrider’s spot in the bullpen.
