Garcia was sent down a couple of weeks ago after giving up five runs in five innings. This takes him off the 40-man roster, clearing room for the additions of Trey Wingenter and Chasen Shreve.

It’s a bit surprising that García didn’t stick around longer this spring after making 16 appearances (eight starts) last year at the big-league level. The 25-year-old righty allowed give runs over five innings (five appearances) this spring in Grapefruit League action. He figures to make it back to Detroit at some point this year.

No word on the exact financial terms yet. García, who is coming off a right shoulder injury, was one of just two arbitration-eligible players that the Tigers had left prior to Friday’s salary exchange deadline. He’ll continue to function as organizational pitching depth for Detroit.

García is likely done for the season due to a right shoulder injury that is still being evaluated.

The good news, is that it’s a different injury than the shoulder soreness that caused Garcia to miss the last month of action before returning on Sunday. The bad news, is that he’ll be shut down completely from throwing until the issue subsides. Expect the 24-year-old hurler to be shelved for a while.

The Tigers confirmed that Garcia was dealing with right shoulder soreness after he was removed in the third inning against the Twins. It’s the same issue that landed him on the injured list earlier this month. Another stint on the IL seems likely.
