Ring, part of the Roberto Alomar trade, got five outs on 15 pitches and earned the victory Saturday as Binghamton snapped a 10-game losing streak.

The 25-year-old Ring returns to the majors for the first time since July 2005. He had a 2.97 ERA and a 37/15 K/BB ratio in 36 1/3 IP for Norfolk. Opponents were batting just .212 against him.

This clears a spot for Guillermo Mota. Ring allowed one run over four innings in 20 days with the Mets.

The Mets haven’t needed any relief help lately, but when they do, Ring should get the call. He has a 1.48 ERA in 24 1/3 innings for Norfolk.

Ring hasn’t appeared in a major league game since the 2010 season, when he allowed four earned runs in 2 1/3 innings of relief with the Yankees. He will serve as organizational relief depth in 2012 for the Rockies.

Ring has put up decent numbers all season long, but he was demoted from Triple-A Norfolk to Double-A at midseason. Overall, he has a 3.32 ERA and a 43/22 K/BB ratio in 62 1/3 IP. His stock has fallen, but he still projects as a quality reliever.

Ring hasn’t appeared in a major league game since the 2010 season but pitched well in limited duty last year in the minors with the Rockies. Obviously, the 32-year-old isn’t close to putting on a big league uniform again.

Ring allowed two runs in 3 1/3 innings during his first stint with the Mets. He’ll get an opportunity to stick around this time.

Ring, who had pitched just twice this month, had a 5.06 ERA in 10 2/3 innings for the Mets.

Ring will likely get to face David Ortiz at least once this weekend. He’d be of use as a lefty specialist if the Padres would give him a permanent spot.
