Braun, who was just recalled last week, has a 7.88 ERA in 16 innings for the Royals this season.

Braun is out for the season after undergoing Tommy John elbow surgery in April, but he’ll now collect a big league salary while rehabbing thanks to the Royals needing to create space on the 40-man roster.

Braun made the Royals last spring and spent the majority of the season in the majors, but he pitched just two innings this spring. He needs to throw more strikes if he’s going to be a factor on a deeper Royals pitching staff this year.

Braun underwent Tommy John surgery in April and probably won’t be ready for the start of 2009. The Royals could offer him a minor league deal to stick around. He had a 6.64 ERA in 39 1/3 innings for the club in 2007.

Braun, 26, had a 2.19 ERA and an 80/29 K/BB in 65 2/3 innings between Double- and Triple-A. The Royals think he’ll become a setup man or maybe even a closer. However, he’s not a very good bet for the short-term.

Plenty of familiar names here, but no one that had any real chance of making the team. The White Sox had to like the offensive potential Viciedo showed this spring, but he’s going to have a tough time making it at third base. A switch to the outfield could be in his future. Allen, a possible first baseman of the future, went 4-for-13 with a homer and a triple. Flowers went 4-for-14, but that came with seven strikeouts.
