Marlins sent LHP Sean West outright to Triple-A New Orleans.
West is off the 40-man roster after clearing waivers, which speaks volumes about how much his stock as dropped since being selected as a supplemental first-round pick in 2005. The 25-year-old southpaw posted an ugly 5.59 ERA and 56/46 K/BB ratio over 87 innings at the Triple-A level last year and underwent offseason elbow surgery.

Sean West yielded three runs on four hits and four walks in 1 2/3 innings Wednesday in a loss to the Mets.
2011 was a lost year for West, as he missed time with elbow problems and posted a 5.59 ERA and a 56/46 K/BB ratio in his 17 starts for New Orleans. He’s now out of options, so the Marlins will try to find room for him if he has a good spring. A few more outings like today’s and he probably won’t have much trouble clearing waivers.

West has made great strides in the minors this season and will make his major league debut Saturday night against the Rays. He has a solid strikeout rate, but it could be a few years before he’s ready to contribute as a fantasy asset. Keep an eye out for him. He’s a major talent.

Sean West held the Rays to two earned runs over five innings, but was left with a no-decision Saturday in his major league debut.
West pitched pretty well against a hot-hitting Rays club. His control wasn’t great (four walks, five strikeouts), but that’s to be expected. NL-only leaguers might want to throw him on some kind of watch list. He’ll face the Mets next week.

Sean West was charged with five runs over 4 1/3 innings as part of a no-decision in a rain-shortened 7-5 win on Tuesday night.
West has now given up at least four runs in three of his last four outings. Tonight he yielded eight hits, including a two-run homer to Adam Dunn, while fanning two and walking three. His ERA now sits at 4.06 -- over 4.00 for the first time. He’ll face the Giants next.

Sean West earned his first major-league victory on Monday night, hurling eight scoreless innings to lead the Marlins past the Giants 4-0.
West bounces back from a shaky outing in his last turn with his best start as a big-leaguer. He took a no-hitter into the sixth and ultimately allowed only two singles and a walk while striking out six. The sizable 22-year-old has held opponents to a measly .159 batting average over his first four major-league starts.

Sean West cuffed the Mets to one run in seven innings in a no-decision on Friday.
West left a 1-1 game after the seventh. The Mets won 2-1 in 11 innings. It was West’s second solid major league start that ended in a no-decision in as many tries. He allowed four hits and one walk while striking out two. It’s time for NL-only owners to take notice of West. He gets the Brewers in Florida next week.

After a fast start, West has posted a 6.58 ERA over his past five starts. His 28-to-24 strikeout-to-walk ratio leaves plenty to be desired. He’s scheduled to face the Diamondbacks in his next turn.

Sean West suffered his first loss, yielding five runs -- four of them earned -- over 4 1/3 innings against the Brewers on Wednesday night.
The Brewers won the game 9-6. It was definitely his shakiest outing thus far, as he gave up four runs, including a two-run homer to Ryan Braun, while fanning two and walking three. Even with the rough outing, he has a 3.31 ERA and 1.22 WHIP through three starts.
