Tom Martin’s emergence as the top lefty in the LA pen means Colyer can get more time in the minors.

Colyer allowed one earned run in 4 2/3 innings during his first two stints with the Dodgers this season. He’ll rejoin the pen.

Working for the first time since June 7, Colyer pitched two scoreless innings on Wednesday. This probably isn’t what he had in mind for a reward.

Even with below average command, Colyer could be a decent lefty reliever. He’s not below average, though. He’s walked 44 batters in 50 1/3 innings between Triple-A and the majors.

Colyer, who has command issues, could be a successful situational reliever in the majors if he learns to control his pitches. That could be said about thousands of pitchers toiling in the minors at present.

Colyer had made his major league debut in relief today, allowing one run and five hits in 2 2/3 innings.

Colyer has allowed one run in 4 2/3 innings during two stints with the Dodgers this season. He’ll be back.

Colyer has a mid-90s fastball and a hard slider, but poor command has prevented him from developing into a quality reliever. The 26-year-old had a 5.67 ERA in 28 relief appearances for Triple-A Norfolk last season. He should open next year back in Triple-A.

The 12 walks in 10 2/3 innings this spring kept any team from gambling on Colyer’s potential. It shows no signs of happening anytime soon, but Colyer could someday blossom much like B.J. Ryan did last year.
