Pomeranz did all he could to stick around, throwing four shutout innings. The O’s chose to keep Dana Eveland instead, though, likely because he could throw more innings if need be with Jason Hammel (knee) banged up.

Pomeranz will be used strictly as bullpen depth. MASN.com’s Roch Kubatko suggests Luis Exposito could be sent down in a corresponding move. The Orioles could also transfer Tsuyoshi Wada to the 60-day DL to make room for Pomeranz on the 40-man roster.

The Orioles need pitching depth after airing out their bullpen Sunday. Pomeranz, 27, has a 4.53 ERA in parts of nine seasons in the minors. Look for Luis Exposito to be sent down in a corresponding move.

It’s not clear which O’s affiliate he’ll be joining. The 27-year-old right-hander has been sidelined since lat May with a left oblique strain.

Pomeranz tossed four scoreless innings for the O’s earlier this month before being sent packing. He’ll work in middle relief.

Pomeranz must have a pretty serious oblique strain, as he’s only been out for a little over a week and now won’t be able to return until late July. He’s posted a 3.00 ERA over six relief innings for the O’s this season.
