Mets RHP prospect Thomas McIlraith pitched the first six innings of a combined no-hitter Saturday in a win for Low-A Columbia.
Columbia relievers Alex Palsha and Johnny Magliozzi kept the no-hitter intact as the Fireflies rolled to a 9-0 win over Charleston. McIlraith notched six strikeouts while allowing just two free passes. 46 of his 72 pitches went for strikes. The 22-year-old preserved the no-hit bid with a stellar defensive play on a comebacker hit by Radley Haddad in the sixth inning. A 20th-round pick in last year’s draft, McIlraith delivered a stunning 1.71 ERA over 12 outings for Kingsport in the Appalachian League last season.
