Athletics recalled first baseman Tommy Everidge from Triple-A Sacramento.
Everidge will fill in at first base for the injured Daric Barton. The 26-year-old hit .309/.380/.489 with eight home runs and 53 RBI at the Triple-A level. He will be making his major league debut.
  • CLE Designated Hitter
Jason Giambi (quad) is expected to return from the disabled list Tuesday.
Giambi has been sidelined since July 20 with a strained right quad and was also dealing with a bruised elbow. His batting average had dipped to .193. Tommy Everidge will probably head back to Triple-A to clear roster space.

Assistant GM David Forst said that Daric Barton (hamstring) “should be in a game tomorrow in Arizona.”
Barton was eligible to come off the DL on Tuesday, but the A’s wanted to see him in game action before activating him. There’s no word yet on how much longer the A’s will hold him out, but Barton is getting closer to a return.

Athletics optioned first baseman Tommy Everidge to Triple-A Sacramento.
Everidge hit .295 with six RBI in his first 12 games with the A’s, but has been held to a .146 batting average since. The 26-year-old will return to a .309/.380/.489 batting line, eight home runs and 53 RBI at the Triple-A level. He’s likely to be recalled on September 1.

Tommy Everidge homered three times and drove in 10 runs Monday for Double-A Midland.
The big game gives the 25-year-old first baseman a .250/.348/.472 line and 12 homers in 176 at-bats. He’s not in Oakland’s plans anywhere, but if injuries strike, there’s a slight chance he could surface as a stopgap at first base or DH.
  • ATH 1st Baseman
Athletics designated 1B Tommy Everidge for assignment.
Everidge got off to a hot start when he was called to the show in July of 2009, but he finished the year with a lousy .224/.302/.365 batting line. He’s only 26, so it wouldn’t be surprising if multiple teams attempt to claim him. The move was necessary in order to make room for Jack Cust.
  • ATH 1st Baseman
Mariners claimed 1B Tommy Everidge off waivers from the Athletics.
Everidge was designated for assignment by the A’s last week after the club re-signed Jack Cust. The 26-year-old hit just .224 in 97 major league plate appearances last year but he compiled a .335/.402/.556 batting line in 430 at-bats between Double-A Midland and Triple-A Sacramento.
  • ATH 1st Baseman
Mariners designated 1B Tommy Everidge for assignment.
Everidge was cleared in order to make room for Eric Byrnes on the 40-man roster. He was just picked up off waivers from the Athletics two weeks ago. The 26-year-old batted .224 in 97 plate appearances with Oakland last season, but batted .335/.402/.556 in 430 at-bats between Double-A Midland and Triple-A Sacramento.

Mariners outrighted 1B Tommy Everidge to Triple-A Tacoma.
Everidge was designated for assignment after the signing of Eric Byrnes, but he passed through waivers. He’ll be invited to the Mariners’ big-league camp in Spring Training. Everidge, 26, hit .224 in 97 plate appearances with Oakland last season, but batted .335/.402/.556 in 430 at-bats between Double-A Midland and Triple-A Sacramento.
  • ATH 1st Baseman
Mariners traded 1B Tommy Everidge to the Astros for future considerations.
Everidge was batting .229/.305/.386 with seven home runs and 36 RBI over 249 at-bats with Triple-A Tacoma this season. The 27-year-old first baseman hit .224 with two homers and seven RBI in 97 plate appearances as a member of the Athletics last season. He’ll likely function as organizational depth.
