Banks had been with Triple-A Columbus, going 2-3 with a 3.89 ERA in 31 relief appearances.

Banks’ contract wasn’t guaranteed. Since the Red Sox have upgraded their pen, there was no reason to keep Banks around this year.

Banks, released by the Red Sox 11 days ago, figures to be assigned to Triple-A Columbus. He should see time in the Yankee bullpen this year.

Banks had a 3.07 ERA and 20 saves in in 56 relief appearances between the Triple-A affiliates of the Yankees and Cubs last season. He picked a better situation to join this year, but he’s still not likely to make the Rangers out of spring training.
