Jose Urena, Tuesday’s starter, will take his place on the active roster. Perez was called up over the weekend and stole a base and scored a run as a pinch-runner on Sunday.

Perez got his first taste of Major League Baseball earlier this month when he was invited to serve as the Marlins’ extra man for their historic game at Fort Bragg. This stay should be a little longer. The 25-year-old outfielder has tallied 39 stolen bases in 82 games this season at the Double-A level and could have DFS value on nights he starts.

MLB allowed the Marlins and Braves an extra man for Sunday’s game played at Fort Bragg, and Perez is it for the Fish. The 25-year-old has posted a .257/.330/.310 with 37 steals at Jacksonville this season and might serve as a pinch-runner Sunday.

Perez appeared in a couple of games with the Marlins back in July and he’s back in the big leagues now that Jacksonville’s season has concluded. The 25-year-old has the ability to play center field and also offers some speed off the bench.

The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for Mike Aviles. Perez is hitting an ugly .131/.283/.162 at Double-A Jacksonville this season.

Perez cleared waivers after being designated for assignment on Friday. The 26-year-old will continue to serve as outfield depth in the minors.

Perez got a cup of coffee with the Marlins in 2016 but then hit an ugly .169/.280/.242 over 293 plate appearances at the Double-A level in 2017. The 27-year-old has elite speed but little else.
