Just a little bureaucratic move, here. The Brewers had outrighted Barrios to Triple-A Colorado Springs on Monday. The 24-year-old right-hander missed the entirety of the 2016 campaign after undergoing surgery to repair a rotator cuff injury back in early March.

Barrios missed the 2016 season following rotator cuff surgery. The 24-year-old should be ready in time for next season but will now have to earn his 40-man roster spot back.

Berrios, a former infielder, has a 2.68 ERA in 33 relief appearances this season between Double-A Altoona and Triple-A Indianapolis. The 23-year-old hasn’t missed many bats, but he throws hard and makes for an interesting project for Milwaukee.

Barrios was just acquired from the Pirates in the Aramis Ramirez deal in July. The 23-year-old compiled a 2.83 ERA and 37/22 K/BB ratio in 60 1/3 innings between Double- and Triple-A this season.

The injury sidelined him for most of the spring. Barrios could miss all or most of the season if he undergoes surgery. The 24-year-old earned a 2.83 ERA in the minors last year before making his Brewers debut in September.

Even if he decides to rehab the shoulder instead, Barrios will begin the season on the disabled list. He will receive a second opinion before making a decision. Barrios was competing for a bullpen spot this spring.
