Marlins acquired INF Yordy Cabrera from the Diamondbacks for RHP Heath Bell and cash considerations.
Cabrera, 22, posted a weak .232/.292/.332 batting line with three home runs and 21 RBI over 60 games this season in High-A ball. The Marlins were likely content with dumping some of Bell’s remaining salary and probably don’t have very high expectations that Cabrera will develop into a major league regular.

Tigers signed RHP Yordy Cabrera to a minor league contract.
The converted former shortstop was released by the Marlins in August of last season. The 25-year-old made the conversion to the mound last season, posting a 2.16 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 7/3 K/BB ratio over 8 1/3 innings with the Marlins rookie league squad. He’s a project that will add organizational bullpen depth for the Tigers.
