The Giants optioned OF Wade Meckler to Triple-A Sacramento; reassigned LHP Carson Whisenhunt, RHP Tommy Romero, INF Donovan Walton, OFs Trenton Brooks and Yoshi Tsutsugo to minor league camp.
Meckler had an outside chance at making the club’s 27-man Opening Day roster, but he still showed promise during his time at spring camp. In his 13 games, the 23-year-old slashed .423/.483/.577 with two doubles, one triple and nine RBI. He’ll continue to develop at the Triple-A level where he posted a .965 OPS across 24 games last season. Whisenhunt is one of the top pitching prospects in baseball and figures to make an impact for fantasy managers down the road.
  • SF 1st Baseman #39
Giants re-signed 1B Yoshi Tsutsugo to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
It’s not the major news on a Japanese superstar that everyone has been pining for, but it’s still a nice depth signing for the Giants. The 31-year-old hit .260/.401/.457 with 10 homers, 44 RBI and three swipes in 279 plate appearances at the Triple-A level in 2023 between the Giants and Rangers.
  • SF 1st Baseman #39
Giants signed 1B Yoshi Tsutsugo to a minor league contract.
Tsutsugo was playing for the Staten Island FerryHawks of the independent Atlantic League after opting out of his minor league contract with the Rangers back in June. The 31-year-old veteran first baseman could find himself in San Francisco at some point next month.
  • FA Left Fielder #39
Yoshi Tsutsugo has signed with the Staten Island FerryHawks of the independent Atlantic League.
Tsutsugo opted out of his minor league deal with the Rangers back in late June and will take his talents to Indy Ball for the remainder of the year. The 31-year-old hasn’t appeared in the majors since the 2022 season.
  • FA Left Fielder #35
    Rangers released INF Yoshi Tsutsugo.
Tsutsugo has opted out of his minor league contract with the Rangers, which he signed back in January, after batting .249 (42-for-169) with six homers, 33 RBI and two steals across 51 games this season for Triple-A Round Rock. The 31-year-old will head back to free agency in search of a new opportunity.

  • FA Right Fielder #15
The Rangers have told Clint Frazier and Yoshi Tsutsugo that they won’t make the team.
Tsutsugo never really stood a chance after reporting late due to visa issues, but Frazier was in the running for the last spot on the bench. He’s hitting .244/.311/.463 with two homers in 41 at-bats this spring.

  • FA Left Fielder #35
Yoshi Tsutsugo went 1-for-2 and clubbed a two-run homer as the Rangers fell to the Diamondbacks in Cactus League action on Monday afternoon.
Tsutsugo victimized Joe Mantiply for his two-run shot in the seventh inning, pulling the Rangers to within a run at 7-6. The 31-year-old was a late arrival to Rangers’ camp due to visa issues, so now he’s trying to make up for lost time. So far, he’s hitting .364 (4-for-11) with a homer and five RBI in his limited action.

  • FA Left Fielder #35
Yoshi Tsutsugo knocked in three runs with a double and a single in his spring debut for the Rangers on Friday.
Tsutsugo was a late arrival due to visa issues, and his chances of making the Rangers out of spring training are close to zero at this point. The Rangers might find room for him later if he hits in Triple-A.

  • FA Left Fielder #35
Rangers signed INF Yoshi Tsutsugo to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
The 31-year-old has never been able to live up to the hype since he arrived stateside prior to the 2020 season -- slashing a woeful .197/.291/.339 with 18 homers and 75 RBI in 640 plate appearances. It’s a nice low-risk depth signing for the Rangers though, as he adds a quality left-handed bat for depth and should have a shot at landing a bench job on the club’s Opening Day roster.

  • FA Left Fielder #35
Blue Jays signed INF Yoshi Tsutsugo to a minor league contract.
Tsutsugo will report to Triple-A Buffalo. The infielder was released by the Pirates on August 5 after hitting just .171/.249/.229 in 193 plate appearances for Pittsburgh. He provides organizational depth for the remainder of 2022, with no guarantees of joining Toronto before the year ends.
