Kurt Busch announced Wednesday night on Twitter that he is engaged to Ashley Van Metre.
The couple first became public at Daytona International Speedway in February.
Van Metre is represented by Wilhelmina Models, a talent management agency, and also plays polo. Van Metre is 24, Busch is 37. She is from Middleburg, Va. and has played polo for 13 years.
They met last fall at Martinsville Speedway. Busch told Motorsport.com that “the relationship really blossomed in the offseason. She’s been with me through a lot, but I’m happy and in a much better place right now.’'
No date has been announced for their wedding.
This will be the second marriage for Busch, the 2004 NASCAR Sprint Cup champion. He was married to Eva Bryan from 2006-11.
Busch’s former girlfriend, Patricia Driscoll, had a protection order granted against him in February and upheld in May. Driscoll alleged that Busch grabbed her throat and slammed her head three times into the wall of his motorhome Sept. 26 in the infield at Dover International Speedway. The Delaware Attorney General did not pursue criminal charges against Busch, citing a lack of evidence.
