Steve O’Donnell, NASCAR executive vice president and chief racing development officer, released a statement Monday morning on the passing of USAC driver Bryan Clauson.
Clauson, 27, died Sunday from injuries sustained in a crash while leading the Belleville Midget Nationals on Saturday.
“NASCAR extends its sincere condolences to the family and friends of Bryan Clauson, a passionate competitor whose love for racing fueled his unmatched positive spirit. He was a dear friend to many in the racing community, and he was loved and respected by all who knew him. He touched the lives of so many in our motorsports family, and his warm presence and relentless enthusiasm will be missed.”
Clauson, a native of Noblesville, Indiana, made 26 starts in NASCAR’s Xfinity series from 2007-08. All but one of the starts was for Chip Ganassi Racing. Clauson earned one pole at Daytona International Speedway in July 2008 and collected one top five, in June 2008 at Kentucky Speedway.
Many in NASCAR were among those who grieved on social media Tuesday morning.
