Darrick Martin has earned a second 10-day contract with the Clippers, coach Mike Dunleavy said.
That should happen tonight or tomorrow. Whether Martin stick with the Clippers after that depends on his play and the status of Marko Jaric and Shaun Livingston.
  • TOR Point Guard
Darrick Martin showed up at Raptors practice yesterday in hopes of signing with the team for the upcoming season.
The 35-year-old veteran point guard was an invaluable member of the Raptors last year for his locker room presence. He worked out with Raptor assistants Jim Todd and Alex English after the summer league team practiced and could be signed as a free agent this summer.

Clippers signed guard Darrick Martin to a 10-day contract.
Martin will help out at point guard with Marko Jaric out.
  • TOR Point Guard
Darrick Martin made his debut for the Clippers tonight and had two points in 10 minutes.
He will back up Rick Brunson, but as long as Brunson keeps playing well, won’t have any fantasy value.
  • TOR Point Guard
Darrick Martin had a nice game off the bench tonight, hitting a series of jumpers to keep the Clippers in control of the charging Sonics late in the game. He finished with 10 points in 27 minutes.
He actually saw more minutes than Rick Brunson tonight, but looked more like a shooting guard than a point guard. He should continue to back up Brunson at point guard until Shaun Livingston and Marko Jaric return.

The Clippers elected not to re-sign Darrick Martin after his second 10-day contract expired.
Martin averaged 3.8 points in 11 games for the Clippers/

Raptors sign point guard Darrick Martin.
He’ll help back up Mike James and Jose Calderon, but shouldn’t have any fantasy value.

Negotiations between Darrick Martin and the Raptors are progressing, the Toronto Star reports.
Martin is an ideal third-string point guard because of his team spirit, veteran leadership and ability to come in and deliver when needed. For the last three weeks, Martin has been participating in training camp with CSKA Moscow, so he’ll be in good shape when he arrives at the Raptors camp. Toronto is considering bringing Martin back on a non-guaranteed deal.
  • TOR Point Guard
The Toronto Raptors on Sunday signed veteran guard Darrick Martin.
In 31 games last year, Martin averaged 3.0 points and 1.4 assists, and he won’t have fantasy value this season.

T.J. Ford appears to be at least weeks away from playing, as he still doesn’t have a target date to return to practice.
Darrick Martin has been promoted to second string in the meantime, yet is 36 years old and playing on a non-guaranteed contract. If he’s with the team after Jan. 10 his contract will become guaranteed, so the Raptors might choose to bring in a younger backup. The bottom line here is that Martin still has no value, while Ford’s season and career are still in jeopardy until we get some good news on his status.
