The Spurs waived F Da’Sean Butler on Tuesday.
He’ll try to catch on with another team, but will struggle to make an opening-day roster.

Da’Sean Butler has signed with VEF Riga in Latvia on a two-week “tryout” contract.
Butler will have two weeks to show the team that he’s worthy of a roster spot. He’s struggled to make an impact since tearing his ACL during his final season in school, but he’s still got plenty of talent and time to make his presence felt.

The Heat have waived forward Da’Sean Butler.
So much for Butler having the “inside track” on Miami’s 15th spot -- Mike Miller’s injury forced the Heat to sign Jerry Stackhouse, which may have bumped Butler off the roster.

The Heat signed second-round pick forward Da’Sean Butler on Monday.
He suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee in last year’s Final Four, or he would have been a much higher draft pick. Butler averaged 14.4 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.06 steals at West Virginia, but isn’t expected to do much for the Heat as a rookie.

Da’Sean Butler has the inside track on securing the 15th roster spot for the Heat, according to the Sentinel’s Ira Winderman.
That spells bad news for Kenny Hasbrouck and Patrick Beverly, but none of the three were going to have fantasy relevance either way. Butler may or may not be ready for the start of the season after recovering from knee surgery.
  • FA Point Guard #6
Mario Chalmers (ankle), Carlos Arroyo (quad) and De’Sean Butler (knee surgery) are all recovering from their injuries as the Heat prepare for training camp.
Chalmers says he’ll be ready for camp, Arroyo is questionable for camp, while there is still no timetable on a return for Butler. Chalmers is the only one with any fantasy potential this year, but is probably not worth drafting with LeBron James and Dwyane Wade planning on taking their turn at point guard.

The Heat prefer that second-round pick Da’Sean Butler sign with Miami this season, rather than play a year in Europe, but he probably won’t be ready by October because of a torn ACL.
There is one roster spot remaining in Miami, and it seems they are deciding between Butler, Kenny Hasbrouck and Patrick Beverley. Regardless of which guy makes the cut, they won’t have fantasy value in the Heat’s stacked lineup.

Rookie Da’Sean Butler will not be ready for training camp after undergoing offseason knee surgery for a torn ACL.
Consider him very questionable for opening night, as it could take him months to get back to speed.

Heat selected West Virginia SF Da’Sean Butler with the No. 42 pick in the draft.
Butler tore his ACL during the Final Four, a crippling blow to his draft stock. If he can recover to 100 percent by the 2011-12 season, this will be a steal for the Heat. Butler was averaging 17.2 points and 6.2 rebounds for the Mountaineers before going down. He thinks he’ll be ready for training camp, but we’re pretty sure he’s not a doctor.
  • ATL Center #45
The Heat signed rookie big man Dexter Pittman on Friday.
He was taken with the 32nd pick of the draft and it looks like he’ll make the team’s regular-season roster. However, fellow rooks Jarvis Varnado and Da’Sean Butler may end up playing over seas next season since the Heat are ready to try to win right now.
