The Cleveland Cavaliers are waiving Jacob Gilyard. The former Memphis Grizzlies point guard signed a training camp deal with the Cavs in late September.
Gilyard is looking for a new team after averaging 4.7 points and 3.5 assists for the Grizzlies last season. He seems unlikely to play a significant role for any team at this point, as the regular season is right around the corner.
  • CLE Point Guard #14
According to a report from Cleveland.com’s Chris Fedor, Jacob Gilyard, Zhaire Smith, and Jules Bernard are among the Cavaliers’ latest training camp signees. They also signed Pete Nance, Nae’Qwan Tomlin, and Gabe Osabuohien.
Gilyard appeared in 37 games for the Memphis Grizzlies last season. He averaged 4.7 points and 3.5 assists per game.
  • BKN Point Guard #14
Jacob Gilyard (left hip contusion) is available for Friday’s game against the Knicks.
Gilyard was initially probable for Friday’s game, and there’s a good chance he will be in the rotation. The Nets are without Dennis Schroder and Dennis Smith Jr., who have been ruled out for the team’s final two games of the regular season. Gilyard should not be rostered in active leagues for Friday, but he could be worth a look on Sunday if the minutes are there.
  • BKN Point Guard #4
Dennis Smith Jr. (right hip synovitis) is probable for Sunday’s game against the Lakers.
Smith being probable does not necessarily mean he’s on track to return Sunday. He had a similar designation for Friday’s win over the Bulls before being ruled out. If Smith is cleared, he will take some of the pressure off of starting point guard Dennis Schroder, but not enough to merit being rostered in most leagues. Jacob Gilyard has only played a handful of minutes in Smith’s absence, not playing enough to impact the Nets rotation or fantasy basketball.
  • BKN Point Guard #4
Dennis Smith Jr. (right hip synovitis) has officially been ruled out for Friday’s game against Chicago.
DSJ was downgraded to doubtful earlier in the day after initially being listed as probable, and now it is official. Jacob Gilyard should see a few minutes off the bench, but it won’t be enough for him to impact fantasy basketball.

Jacob Gilyard has signed a two-way contract with the Nets, per Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.
Gilyard was waived by Memphis earlier in the season, but he was waived to give Jordan Goodwin a spot on their roster. Gilyard will get a new a chance with Brooklyn, but he will likely spend most of his time in the G-League.
  • MEM Point Guard #4
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Grizzlies are signing Jordan Goodwin to a two-way contract.
Initially on a 10-day contract, Goodwin has averaged 10.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.5 steals, and 1.0 3-pointers in two appearances with the Grizzlies. While the contract doesn’t make him a relevant option in most fantasy leagues, it does secure his immediate future with the franchise. To open up a spot for Goodwin, the Grizzlies are waiving Jacob Gilyard, who was close to the 50-games played limit for a two-way player.

The Grizzlies announced on Thursday that Scotty Pippen Jr. (bulging disk, lower back) will be re-evaluated in three weeks.
Thursday’s win over Milwaukee was the second straight that Pippen missed after prematurely exiting Monday’s loss to the Pelicans. An MRI revealed a bulging disk in his lower back, which will be treated “conservatively” with physical therapy. Pippen’s absence moves Jacob Gilyard up in the perimeter rotation but will not impact fantasy basketball. Vince Williams, John Konchar, and Luke Kennard will handle most of the perimeter minutes when all are healthy.

Jacob Gilyard, John Konchar, Vince Williams Jr., Santi Aldama, and Jaren Jackson Jr. will start Saturday’s game against the Hornets.
With Derrick Rose (ankle) active, Scotty Pippen Jr. is inactive for Saturday’s game. As a result, Gilyard moves into the starting lineup in the lone change from the quintet that started Thursday’s loss to the Bulls. Gilyard’s fantasy impact has been limited when he’s had the opportunity to start.
  • MEM Point Guard #1
Scotty Pippen Jr. played 27 minutes off the bench in Sunday’s 131-91 loss to the Celtics, accumulating 19 points (6-of-11 FGs, 5-of-6 FTs), six rebounds, four assists, one steal, and two 3-pointers.
Pippen had the best game of his NBA career on Sunday, and he’s reached double figures in four of his last five appearances. With Memphis’ injury tally running into double figures, Pippen will have minutes available to him for the foreseeable future. However, this does not make him a player worth rostering in most leagues. The same can be said for Jacob Gilyard, who started Sunday’s loss and accounted for 13 points, two rebounds, six assists, two steals, and three 3-pointers in 36 minutes. Memphis plays three games during Week 16, beginning with the Knicks on Tuesday.
