Nebraska redshirt senior SG James Palmer Jr. scored 27 second-half points in Wednesday’s win over Rutgers, finishing with 34 points (9-of-19 FGs, 14-of-22 FTs), two rebounds and two steals.
Due to injuries Nebraska entered the Big Ten tournament with just six available scholarship players, which placed even more offensive responsibility upon the shoulders of Palmer. And the redshirt senior, who began his career at Miami, delivered as he sparked a second-half rally for the Cornhuskers. He can play either on or off the ball, but the majority of Palmer’s work is done at the off-guard spot with Glynn Watson Jr. manning the point. ESPN.com’s Jonathan Givony has Palmer being selected by Charlotte with the 53rd pick in June’s NBA draft, and he’ll have at least one more opportunity to show the scouts in Chicago what he can do. Nebraska takes on 5-seed Maryland Thursday afternoon.
