The Pacers waived free agents Jarrid Famous, Tyren Johnson, Darnell Lazare and Matt Rogers on Thursday.
None of these come as a surprise and the roster now sits at 13 players out of a possible 15, so look for them to continue to look for help.
  • Jarrid Famous will attend Grizzlies training camp.
Famous is just a camp body and has no real chance of cracking the final roster.
  • Jarrid Famous led the Wizards’ Summer League squad with 21 points on Sunday, hitting 5-of-7 FGs and 11-of-12 FTs with 10 rebounds and three steals.
The rest of the team shot a combined 13-of-65 from the field (20.0 percent) but it was a great day for Famous, who is simply hoping to earn a training-camp invite.
  • Jarrid Famous has being doing all the dirty work at Summer League, and it has not gone unnoticed by the Wizards’ assistant coach Roy Rogers.
“It’s funny, I told Jarrid before the game, ‘Jarrid, I run no plays for you. Literally I run no plays. And you always find ways to affect the game,’” assistant coach Roy Rogers said. “We try to keep encouraging him to keep going to the glass, keep setting screens, keep rolling because he does all the dirty things that don’t show up that give us an opportunity to win.” The Wizards currently have 15 guaranteed contracts on their roster, so they’d need to shuffle around some players if they’d like to give Famous a spot on the regular-season roster.
  • The Mavs and C Jarrid Famous have agreed upon a 1-year, partially guaranteed deal, sources told Real GM.
The Mavs will give Famous a chance to make the roster as the team continues to shop in the bargain bin for rim protection. With Dallas giving a shot to Famous over guys like JaVale McGee and Samuel Dalembert, it tells you everything you need to know about where the two veterans have their free-agent stock standing at this time.
  • Mavs sign C Jarrid Famous.
He was with the Wizards for Summer League and had a solid run. In five games, he averaged 10.2 points, 6.8 boards, 0.6 steals and 0.4 blocks. Famous also had a game in which he made 11-of-12 from the line and was a nice presence in the paint. He is likely just a camp invitee.
  • NBA Center #50
The Dallas Mavericks have reached an agreement to sign Tunisian center Salah Mejri to a partially guaranteed three-year deal.
Mejri played with Real Madrid last season and averaged 4.3 points and 2.1 boards in 9.2 minutes per game, but the 7'1", 245 pound center does have good size and excels at the pick-and-roll, so it’s a decent signing for Dallas. Zaza Pachulia is penciled in as the starting center, but Mejri could emerge as the primary backup because Satnam Singh and Jarrid Famous likely aren’t ready to contribute.
  • The Mavs waived C Jarrid Famous on Thursday.
The move was done to make room for G Tu Holloway, although Holloway could also be waived before the regular-season begins. Famous now likely try to prove himself in the D-League.
