Heat point guard Jason Richards has been ruled out for the 2008-2009 season because of a torn ACL.
Richards signed a two-year contract with a small guarantee at the start of the offseason, but wasn’t likely to be more than a third-string insurance guard off the bench. His injury leaves the Heat with just two options at PG, Mario Chalmers and Marcus Banks, though Chris Quinn is reportedly close to accepting either a one- or two-year offer.

Former Davidson point guard Jason Richards has signed as a free agent with the Miami Heat and is expected to join the club’s summer league team.
Richards led the nation in assists during his senior season at Davidson, averaging eight per game, and is hoping to make the team as a third-string point guard.

Rookie D.J. Augustin flirted with a record when he hit seven 3-pointers on his way to 26 points and seven assists in Friday’s loss to the Hawks.
The rookie record for 3-pointers in a game is eight, and Augustin was very close to getting there tonight. He won’t be this good every night and was starting because Jason Richardson remains out after knee surgery, but is certainly worth owning in almost all fantasy leagues. Now we have to see if he replaces Raymond Felton as the starting point guard when JR returns.
