The Bulls will waive forward Kasib Powell next week.
Powell has been with the team since a mini-camp early in the summer, and he stands to benefit financially if the team holds off on waiving him. “We want him to make a little bit of money,” GM John Paxson said. “We’re going to wait until next week.” The Bulls will only have 14 players, leaving one spot open to either reacquire Antonio Davis or get another big man with experience.

    Bulls waive forward Kasib Powell.
It was announced they would waive him last week, but they delayed it as long as they could to allow him to be paid more money.
  • MEM Small Forward #29
The Heat signed free agent swingman Yakhouba Diawara on Thursday. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but they are believed to have used the remaining $900,000 of their mid-level exception to guarantee the first year.
Diawara is primarily known for his defensive abilities, and should be a fine backup for Shawn Marion. His signing leaves Bobby Jones and Kasib Powell in a precarious position, and either player (or both) could be left off the regular season roster.
  • MIA Coaching Staff #20
The Heat have extended qualifying offers to restricted free agents Chris Quinn and Kasib Powell. Quinn’s offer is guaranteed, but Powell’s is not.
Quinn’s agent said his client has “an open mind” about returning to the Heat, though he would likely find his minutes reduced with Mario Chalmers on the team. For what it’s worth, Quinn has also been tied to trade rumors involving the Magic. The Heat don’t appear to have interest in free agent Blake Ahearn, whom the Timberwolves might invite to training camp.
  • MIA Small Forward #8
The Miami Heat made qualifying offers to forwards Dorell Wright and Kasib Powell, and guard Chris Quinn on Wednesday, making them restricted free agents.
It would be surprising if all three players aren’t with the Heat again this season. As of July 13, Wright still hasn’t accepted the team’s offer.

The Heat signed F Kasim Powell for the rest of the season on Tuesday.
Normally a player like this wouldn’t have fantasy value, but you never know with the dismantled Heat.
  • MIA Power Forward
Kasib Powell celebrated being recalled from the D-League (where he was this year’s MVP) and being signed by the Heat for the remainder of the season early on Tuesday by torching the Bulls for a career-high 18 points later in that night’s win.
Powell added six rebounds, three boards and two threes on 8-of-16 shooting. Powell is the real-life equivalent of a fantasy owner scooping a guy off waivers and seeing him explode for a huge line that night. If you somehow grabbed Powell and played him today, go play the lottery.

Kasib Powell and Stephane Lasme started over Earl Barron on Friday, but Powell left in the fourth quarter with a leg cramp.
He had 11 points and seven boards, while Lasme had nine points, nine boards and two blocks in another loss. Meanwhile, Barron exploded to hit 9-of-13 shots for 22 points and three boards off the bench. All three guys probably have some fantasy value, but good luck on figuring out which one on which night.

Heat forward Kasib Powell got his first NBA start on Thursday, but finished with just two points on 1-of-8 shooting in 34 minutes.
In fairness, Powell added four rebounds, three assists and three steals without turning the ball over. He started because Daequan Cook is out with a concussion and could only have short-term value in very deep leagues.
  • MIA Power Forward
The Heat signed forward Kasib Powell to a 10-day contract on Saturday.
If nothing else, Miami is fostering friendly relations with the Development League. Powell had played 38 games for Sioux Falls this season, averaging 22 points, six rebounds and three assists. He is barely a blip on fantasy radars.
