The Wizards are considering signing Lonny Baxter today.
Baxter will clear waivers later today, and the Wizards would like to bring the Maryland product back to the area and reunite him with college teammates Steve Blake and Juan Dixon. Baxter is unlikely to sign a 10-day contract, so the Wizards likely would have to work out a deal that would lock him up for the remaining 24 games of the regular season.

Former Charlotte Bobcat Lonny Baxter was arrested by Secret Service agents on Wednesday after shots were fired from a vehicle he was believed to be driving about two blocks from the White House.
“There were spent shell casings in plain view inside the vehicle,” Secret Service spokesman Eric Zahren said. Officers also recovered a handgun from the vehicle. Baxter played for the Bobcats last season and signed a contract to play in Italy this year. However, he may have to put those plans on hold after this move.

Baxter plead guilty to charges of carrying a gun a few blocks from the White House and has been in jail since his arrest Aug. 16. He was apparently responsible for firing shots from his SUV and plans on playing in Europe after he serves his time.

Lonny Baxter’s 2-month jail sentence could cost him a chance to play in Italy this year.
“We haven’t reached a decision on Baxter but to tell the truth we weren’t expecting there to be such a serious sentence,” Montepaschi Siena general manager Ferdinando Minucci told The Associated Press on Thursday. “We will be speaking with him to reach a solution.” Baxter was arrested and sentenced to jail time after apparently firing shots from his SUV close to the White House last week.

A federal judge sentenced former University of Maryland basketball star Lonny Baxter to 60 days in prison on Friday for illegally shipping firearms.
Baxter currently plays in Spain and has said he’s obsessed with guns. U.S. District Judge Peter Messitte based the sentence on Baxter’s history with firearms and his actions in the case. “You are in a sense on injured reserve,” Messitte told Baxter. “You have in effect injured yourself.” Baxter made headlines a year ago after firing shots near the White House, which also resulted in a couple months behind bars.
