Al Jefferson says he’ll be ready to go for Bobcats opener

Just shy of two weeks ago, Charlotte’s Al Jefferson sprained his ankle in a preseason game against the Heat. It was pretty bad, teammates had to carry him to the locker room, but he said at the time his goal was to return for the season opener.

Looks like that is going to happen — Jefferson said Thursday his ankle is good and he will be ready when the Bobcats tip off the season in Houston Oct. 30, tweets Rick Bonnell of the Charlotte Observer.

The plan in Charlotte is for Jefferson — who should be a 20 and 10 guy on this team, he was 17.8 and 9.2 last season — to provide some inside scoring to go with Kemba Walker and some perimeter scoring. Put it all together — with a defense that has been better than expected this preseason — and maybe you have a Bobcats team that is not terrible. Not good, still in the lottery, but not as terrible.

We’ll see about all that. But at least Jefferson should be back opening night.
