There is about to be some serious roster shakeups in Detroit. There needs to be.
But Rodney Stuckey is staying as part of the future. As he should.
The Pistons extended a $3.8 million qualifying offer to Stuckey, according to the Detroit News. What that means: While Stuckey could sign that offer, what it really does is give the Pistons the right to match any offer another team makes for Stuckey in free agency. He becomes restricted. The two sides may reach a deal on an extension, but we’re going to need to see the new Collective Bargaining Agreement first.
This was both expected and the obvious move. Stuckey is part of the future of this team, he averaged 15.3 points a game for them last season.
A team that still needs to get a coach on board. Kelvin Sampson and Lawrence Frank appear to be the frontrunners. (Dwane Casey is in that mix, too, but he may be headed to Toronto.)
