NBA: Referees correctly didn’t call foul on Reggie Jackson’s final shot

Reggie Jackson was so upset about the no-call on his potential game-winning 3-pointer in Game 4 against the Cavaliers, he said referees should face fines and suspensions for errors.

But after reviewing the play from multiple angles, the league ruled the officials got it right on the floor. Kyrie Irving didn’t foul Jackson.

Irving (CLE) maintains legal guarding position and makes no contact with Jackson (DET) as he initially reaches in for the steal. Jackson then initiates contact with Irving as he jumps sideways on his shot attempt.

Irving can be a lockdown defender when he wants, as he showed briefly in last year’s Finals before getting hurt. The Cleveland point guard just locked up Jackson on the final play.

I’m surprised Jackson hasn’t drawn a fine for his comment, though I believe not penalizing him is the right move. But Jackson loses one potential argument in the court of public opinion: that he was right about the call.
