Does Detroit want to carry a third true point guard into the regular season?
If so, Dwight Buycks just became the leading candidate.

Detroit Pistons have reached an agreement with free agent guard Dwight Buycks, a league source told @BBallInsiders.

The Pistons have just 14 players on standard contracts, leaving one opening on the regular-season roster. Buycks could fill it if he isn’t joining Luis Montero as Detroit’s other two-way player. Buycks’ rights in the league formerly known as the D-League are already held elsewhere, so this isn’t about making him an affiliate player in Grand Rapids.
Buycks is a borderline NBA player. After going undrafted out of Marquette in 2011, the 6-foot-3 point guard has spent time with the Raptors and Lakers, overseas and in the D-League. At 28, he might be primed for a full season in the NBA.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the Pistons sign other players to compete for this roster spot in the preseason. So, just because Buycks is the only known contender so far doesn’t mean he’ll be handed the job.
