Hettsheimeir

Hettsheimeir is drawing interest from a variety of teams, and will soon visit the U.S. for a series of physical tests and workouts before deciding which team to sign with. No matter where he lands, he projects as a middling backup PF/C in the NBA -- he averaged 13.3 points, 6.4 rebounds and only 0.4 blocks in 30.1 minutes per game last year, which doesn’t bode well for his fantasy outlook.

There were reports that Dallas had offered Hettsheimeir a contract, but the Mavs have a full roster with 15 guaranteed contracts. Hettsheimeir could sign with another team (the Cavs are rumored to have interest), but the Dallas Morning News writes that he “may have to work through some physical problems before the Mavericks or any other NBA team is ready to commit to him.” The nature of those ‘physical problems’ is unclear, but he’s an afterthought regardless of where he lands this year.

The Cavaliers and Mavericks were both rumored to have interest in Hettsheimeir, but nothing came of it -- he’s still recovering from a knee injury he suffered during the Olympics, which can’t have helped their scouting efforts. Don’t be surprised to hear his name again in the summer of 2013.

The Mavericks and Cavaliers have both shown interest in the 6'10" big man, but right now there’s no way to tell which way he’s leaning. He’s unlikely to make a dent in fantasy leagues this season, regardless of where he lands.

The Spurs liked what they saw of Hettsheimeir during the PanAm games, so they’ll get him in for a closer look. Perhaps he lands a training camp deal with San Antonio so he can compete for a roster spot, but he has numerous obstacles ahead of him in order to earn any sort of relevancy in fantasy leagues.
