''There’s a lot of things to like about Rawle Marshall,’' said Donnie Nelson, the Mavericks president of basketball operations. ''He didn’t play for a big-time school and flew under the radar.’' He’s being compared to Josh Howard and Marquis Daniels and averaged 19.7 points and 7.7 rebounds last season for Oakland (Mich.) University. He shouldn’t have any fantasy value, at least this year.

They’re not going to rush Griffin back, so Marshall could get a few more starts. He doesn’t have much fantasy appeal though.

They scored just 34 points in the first half, and Griffin went back to the bench to start the second half. He has no fantasy value, even with all the injuries Dallas is currently dealing with.

In seven previous games this season, Marshall had scored just 12 points in 26 minutes. He matched both those totals exactly in this contest.

Marshall shot 3-for-4 from the floor and the line, and buried his only 3-point attempt. With Josh Howard sidelined, the rookie has done a good job as a short-term fill-in at forward.

Marshall is currently with Fort Worth in the D-League.

Johnson cannot make the move until either Jerry Stackhouse or Doug Christie returns to practice. “We’re short on bodies right now,” he said.

He and Josh Powell, both rookies last season, were salary throw-ins in a deal that sent Anthony Johnson to Dallas for Darrell Armstrong. Marshall, who averaged just over three points per game last season, is expected to be waived by the Pacers.

Marquis Daniels has started at the two-guard in each of the past few games, but doesn’t appear to be available for tonight’s contest. Marshall is averaging just 3.7 PPG in limited time this season.
