In the wake of Darrell Arthur’s potentially season-ending Achilles injury, the Grizzlies are in the market for another backup big man.
Memphis isn’t going to find anyone as talented as Arthur, but they’re looking at free agents like Walter Sharpe, Josh Davis and Brian Skinner. They have a full $5 million trade exception they could use, and they also have O.J. Mayo as a trade chip if they’re willing to flip him for a big man.
  • ORL Shooting Guard #4
The Pistons have traded Arron Afflalo, Walter Sharpe and cash to the Nuggets for a future second-round pick, according to Yahoo! Sports.
Detroit clears another $1.8 million in cap space, while Denver can use Afflalo to fill the void created by the departure of Dahntay Jones (and possibly Linas Kleiza). Neither Afflalo nor Sharpe is likely to help fantasy owners next season.
  • ORL Power Forward
Benjamin Hotchman of the Denver Post is reporting that Bucks power forward Malik Allen is headed to the Nuggets in exchange for forwards Sonny Weems and Walter Sharpe.
Allen will give the Nuggets some added depth in the front court but is unlikely to put forward significant minutes or stats.
  • MIL Small Forward
Walter Sharpe was included in a trade landing him in Milwaukee.
His minutes per season is lower than what you want in points per game. He’s still a project at this point.
  • ORL Shooting Guard #4
In an effort to clear salary in order to afford a big man like Glen Davis or Brandon Bass, it’s possible the Pistons will move Arron Afflalo and Walter Sharpe.
They wouldn’t miss either player too much, but have some rebounding concerns and definitely need to sign a big man.
  • ORL Shooting Guard #4
The Denver Post is reporting that Arron Afflalo might be heading to the Denver Nuggets, as the Pistons are trying to clear cap space.
The move makes sense with Dahntay Jones now in Indy and Linas Kleiza likely on the move. Afflalo is a combo guard that can also play the 3. Watch for the Pistons to try to include forward Walter Sharpe in the deal, as well.
  • ORL Power Forward
The Nuggets acquired veteran forward Malik Allen from the Bucks in exchange for forwards Sonny Weems and Walter Sharpe.
Allen will provide some depth for the Nuggets front court, but none of the players involved in this deal should make any fantasy noise.
  • MIL Small Forward
Forward Walter Sharpe was traded to the Bucks on Friday.
The Bucks now have more forwards than they know what to do with, so Sharpe isn’t likely to see many minutes this season.
  • MIL Small Forward
The Pistons have officially signed second-round draft pick Walter Sharpe to a two-year contract worth slightly more than $880,000.
Sharpe agreed to the deal in July, so this was pretty much a formality. He has serious potential but (as with most rookies) is unlikely to get much playing time this season.
  • MIL Small Forward
Pistons rookie Walter Sharpe is not likely to see much time in the D-League this year, according to new coach Michael Curry.
“He needs a year here under our watch,” Curry said. “He needs structure and stability every day. A guy like (center) Cheikh Samb needs basketball hours -- he’s a guy that would benefit more from the D-League. Walter will benefit more from being in this structure every day.” Don’t expect him to log many minutes in Detroit this season.
