He’s participated in most of the team drills this week, so it’s a safe bet.

Even though he missed the final three games of the season, Thomas, 26, made the Pro Bowl as a special teamer. He also plays linebacker in passing situations.

The extent of the injury is not yet known.

An MRI showed no ligament or meniscus damage. Roderick Green is expected to replace Thomas in the lineup.

NFL Network’s Jason LaCanfora hears that a marriage with Thomas’ former coordinator Rex Ryan and the Jets is “doubtful at best.” The Broncos and 49ers aren’t interested, and the Dolphins are going with a youth movement at outside linebacker. Turning 33 before the start of the season, Thomas’ best years are far behind him.

Thomas’ versatility was on display, as he also played a little OLB and DE. But if his primary position is at inside linebacker, with Mike Vrabel outside, we like his chances to raise his tackle total. Vrabel could see his numbers decline.

Thomas’ leg was rolled over by Mike Vrabel, who was blocked into his leg. He was supported by two trainers as he limped off favoring his left foot, but returned to start the second half.

Looks like he’s there to stay. Thomas is a better bet for tackles playing inside, with Mike Vrabel moving back to outside linebacker. Thomas will move around a bit and could play more at OLB in future years, but expect to see him share inside snaps with Tedy Bruschi and Junior Seau this year.
