Cash, a special teams standout, might miss the entire season. The team also lost backup G Jeb Terry to an ankle injury that appears to be long-term.

Cash was trying to make the team as a special teamer and reserve ‘backer. Olajubutu was an undrafted free agent. Both were hurt in the preseason.

It was thought that Cash had suffered a serious neck injury when he collided with teammate Marcus Hamilton, so this is great news.

The crown of Cash’s helmet struck Hamilton’s knee on the play. Cash’s head and neck were immobilized, but he did appear to have movement in his hands. Coach Jon Gruden expressed optimism, saying “We don’t know the exact severity, but he’s moving around and the signs are good.”

They’ll be placed on injured reserve if they clear waivers. Nicholson is undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery on Wednesday, and Cash was just released from the hospital on Sunday after suffering a neck injury.

Coach Jon Gruden said Monday that Cash avoided structural damage and is expected to make a full recovery. However, he’s unlikely to make it back before the final roster is determined, so he could be released with an injury settlement.

Cash spent all of 2007 on injured reserve. He’s only a special teamer.
