Broncos signed QB Brad Van Pelt to their practice squad.
He’ll develop as the team’s No. 4 QB behind Jake Plummer, Danny Kannell, and rookie Matt Mauck.
  • HOU Quarterback
Brad Van Pelt is Denver’s new backup quarterback.
The second-year player from Colorado State has impressed in camp. Similar to Jake Plummer in a lot of ways, Van Pelt will need a strong preseason to keep the job. The Broncos better pray Plummer stays healthy this season.
  • HOU Quarterback
Brad Van Pelt took a strong lead for the backup QB job in Denver Saturday.
He completed 10-of-17 passes for 107 yards. He added 45 yards rushing on three carries, including a 40-yarder in which he juked Marcus Coleman out of his shoes. Van Pelt looks like a young Jake Plummer. We think that’s a good thing.
  • HOU Quarterback
Broncos will release QB Bradlee Van Pelt.
The Colorado St. star did not impress and looks unlikely to make the team’s practice squad.
  • HOU Quarterback
Texans released QBs Bradlee Van Pelt and Quinton Porter, WR Harry Williams, DTs Thomas Johnson and Thomas Smith, TE Ben Steele, and CB Derrick Roberson.
Van Pelt served as Houston’s backup quarterback to finish last season. Porter was on the practice squad. Roberson was an undrafted rookie. It appears Jared Zabransky has a decent shot to stick as the new third QB.

The Broncos selected Colorado State QB Bradlee Van Pelt with the 250th pick of the NFL Draft.
The Broncos take the local product, their second QB of the seventh round. It’s safe to say that either he or Matt Mauck won’t make the team out of training camp.
  • HOU Quarterback
Coach Mike Shanahan says the Broncos are likely to draft a QB.
He said the club will look in the middle-to-late rounds for a quarterback. The Broncos have had discussions with the agent for Anthony Wright and with Detroit, concerning Joey Harrington.
  • HOU Quarterback
Bradlee Van Pelt went 2-for-8 for seven yards in today’s game against San Diego.
Van Pelt took over as the Bronocos quarterback to start the third quarter, but wasn’t very impressive throwing the ball. He did rush 10 times for 41 yards as Denver slowly milked the seconds of the clock in the third and fourth quarters. Plummer will resume starting quarterback after their bye in the first round of the playoffs.
  • HOU Quarterback
Bradlee Van Pelt is the Broncos’ No. 2 quarterback heading to training camp.
Van Pelt should be pushed by first-round pick Jay Cutler, who could be Denver’s starter in 2007.
