ESPN’s Paul Kuharsky speculates that the Colts could let Adam Vinatieri go if they’re impressed by undrafted rookie Brett Swenson.
Vinatieri, 37, will have to show that the knee that cost him 10 games plus the playoffs last season is healthy. Assuming he sticks, Vinatieri won’t be a great fantasy option with a declining leg and the Colts’ deadly effectiveness in the red zone.
  • IND Kicker (FG)
Rookie Brett Swenson is expected to push Adam Vinatieri for the Colts’ kicking job in 2010.
Vinatieri has the obvious edge if he proves that his knee is healthy, but Swenson is a name to track. There is already speculation that Vinatieri could be on thin ice if Swenson, Michigan State’s MVP last year, impresses this summer.
  • FA Kicker (FG) #4
Adam Vinatieri (knee) was not limited in Colts practice Thursday.
“This year I’m healed up and this entire offseason we’ve been working on strengthening everything back and making sure I’ll be ready for a long season,” Vinatieri said. As long as he doesn’t suffer any setbacks, Vinatieri should hold off undrafted rookie Brett Swenson for kicking duties this summer.
  • IND Kicker (FG)
    Colts waived/injured K Brett Swenson.
He’ll go on injured reserve after clearing waivers. We’ve not heard word on Swenson’s injury, and the Colts have Garrett Lindholm as a camp leg. Adam Vinatieri has dealt with an accumulation of injuries recently and will need rest.
  • FA Kicker (FG) #4
The Colts “very much want” Adam Vinatieri to be their kicker this season, according to the Indy Football Report.
The 37-year-old is coming off the most injury-plagued season of his career, so the Colts brought in rookie Brett Swenson for “competition.” The team believes Vinatieri can stay healthy this year. He’s the kicker barring a meltdown in August.
  • IND Kicker (FG)
Colts waived K Brett Swenson and DB Jordan Hemby.
The Colts didn’t need Swenson after recently re-signing Adam Vinatieri to a multi-year deal. Hemby was only a 90-man roster kind of defensive back.
