The rookie fourth-round pick has been on the physically-unable-to-perform list all season with a mysterious injury. The Patriots have to activate him by week nine of put him on injured reserve.

He signed late, then placed on the active-PUP list with an undetermined injury. Patrick Pass or Mike Cloud could emerge as the Pats No. 3 RB.

After a lost rookie season, Cobbs is healthy and improving in Patriots camp. The team will give Cobbs a lot of preseason work. If he does well, it will be Cobbs, not Kevin Faulk, who would get the bulk of carries if Dillon was ever hurt.

It appears Cobbs is losing his chance to win the final running back roster spot to Bell, an undrafted free agent. That makes Bell, not Cobbs, a deep sleeper in fantasy leagues.

Ron Dayne and Damien Nash may both be released. Cobbs, a former fourth-round pick by New England, has been solid in preseason action. The Broncos’ No. 3 back is worth a late flier in nearly all leagues.

Actually, he said “starting jobs,” but we’re not sure what other jobs he’s talking about. While Shanny loves throwing out verbal bouquets in the off-season, Cobbs is a safe bet to be the team’s No. 3 RB, a spot that has proved fantasy-worthy two seasons running. He’s worth drafting in deep leagues.

The Broncos often go with two running backs, so it will either be Tatum or Mike Bell who will start at tailback for Denver. Mike got the preseason starts and is a fine play against St. Louis on Sunday.

The fourth-round pick has yet to practice with New England. New England is currently only carrying two running backs.
