The Cowboys safety was placed on the physically-unable-to-perform list with a back injury. But a nerve problem has emerged that effects his ability to use his calf muscles. He’s eligible to come off the PUP list on October 24th.

The anchor of the Dallas defense is on the PUP list following back surgery. This is the first positive news we’ve heard on Woodson in quite a while.

Coach Bill Parcells is weighing whether to keep Woodson on the roster and tie up a spot or place him on the PUP list, which would keep him out of action for the first six weeks of the season.

“I can’t tell you where exactly I’m at right now, but I’m getting better and better every week,” Woodson said.

“I will be back,” Woodson said. “You can write that.” He’s currently on the physically-unable-to-perform list. It’s expected to be Woodson’s final season.

“It’s been pretty much the same,” Parcells said. “It’s a waste of time to discuss it until the opportunity comes and that window gets here. Once that gets here, we’ll have to make a decision as to where he is and at what point in time do we exercise the option to practice him, if at all.”

Woodson is still hopeful he’ll return this season. If not, his career is likely over.

Woodson is hopeful he’ll be ready for next Sunday, but that appears doubtful. The safety is currently on the PUP list.

This was supposed to be the final year for the Cowboys franchise leading tackler. But he’s been on the PUP list all year, and needs to practice by Tuesday to stay eligible to play.

Woodson said he did better than the trainers expected, but admitted he still has a long way to go.
