Wimbush

The team feared Wimbush would require more invasive surgery, but now the team expects him back for the start of training camp. He’s the team’s primary kick returner.

A key contributor on specials and a backup fullback, Wimbush could miss training camp and the preseason while recovering from the injury. Wimbush led the Jaguars in special teams tackles in 2005 and set a team record for single-season kick return yardage.

With Greg Jones out, the team may de-emphasize the fullback role, using Wimbush more as a tailback. While we wouldn’t draft Wimbush in his second season, it looks like he and LaBrandon Toefield are first in line for carries behind Fred Taylor.

He became expendable because of the return of Greg Jones.

Former Miami TE Jason Rader was also at the workout. Wimbush could be an option to help on special teams and at fullback if he signs with the Pats.

Wimbush has good size for goal-line situations. Toefield had a good training camp. Don’t expect Fred Taylor to score touchdowns in bunches this season just because Greg Jones is out for the year.

The injury is not believed to be serious.
