Patriots hired Alabama quality controls staffer Joe Houston as assistant special teams coordinator.
The former Trojans kicker continues his fast-rising ascent as a special teams staffer, jumping to the NFL and New England only one year after serving under coach Nick Saban as the Crimson Tide’s special teams “quality control staffer.” Houston previously worked as Iowa State’s quality control coach and special teams coordinator before joining Alabama in 2018. It’s not the first time coach Bill Belichick has poached from his good friend’s staff, most notably bringing on Giants coach Joe Judge as the Patriots’ special teams coordinator in 2012.
