  • Patriots released TE Marcellus Rivers and activated SS Rodney Harrison from the reserve/suspended list.
The Pats will likely keep Rivers on speed dial, although he’s unlikely to ever be a fantasy factor. It’s uncertain whether Harrison will join the starting lineup immediately. James Sanders has been playing pretty well.

Mills had the best chance of nabbing the team’s third TE spot, but ultimately lost out to David Thomas.
  • Patriots re-signed TE Marcellus Rivers and claimed LB David Herron off waivers from the Vikings.
Rivers will be a blocker as long as he lasts in New England. Herron, an undrafted rookie from Michigan State, will back up at inside linebacker.
  • Patriots released TE Marcellus Rivers.
They will go with just two tight ends, Ben Watson and Kyle Brady, with David Thomas being ruled out. Look for New England to use three and four receiver sets.
