Rivals recruiting analyst Mark Pszonak tabbed Georgia as the favorite for the commitment of four-star 2017 WR Mark Webb.
Of late, Webb traveled to Athens in an effort to garner more information about the school. He is hoping to make visits to Alabama, North Carolina, Maryland and Penn State this summer, but the 6-foot-2, 193-pounder was talking like he already has somebody in mind. “I might move my commitment closer now. I was going to commit after the season, but now I might move it closer, either before the start of the season or after the first game of the season,” Webb said. On Rivals, the wideout moved from No. 168 to No. 66 in their updated rankings released this week. Outlet analyst Adam Gorney believes he could rise higher than even that if impresses at this weekend’s Rivals100 Five-Star Challenge.
  • Rivals recruiting analyst Adam Gorney wrote that "[w]hat I saw out of [four-star WR Mark Webb] at the Rivals Camp Series in New Jersey leads me to believe he could really surprise a lot of people at the Rivals100 Five-Star Challenge.”
“The four-star has great speed down the field, he’s an excellent route runner and seems to be able to get open against just about anybody,” Gorney wrote. The analyst believes that with a strong showing at the Rivals100 Five-Star Challenge in Atlanta, the 6-foot-2, 193-pounder could “shoot up the rankings [from No. 168].” Georgia, Alabama and Miami are currently the three biggest dogs to make him offers.
  • Georgia four-star 2017 verbal WR commit Mark Webb will take an official visit to Penn State on January 27.
Webb will be taking an official trip to Georgia this coming weekend, with his Penn State journey still on the horizon. The 6-foot-2, 193-pounder remains committed to UGA, but would like to take advantage of his visits nonetheless. Penn State earns the draw, here, due to Webb’s tightness with Nittany Lions WR coach Josh Gattis. Rivals ranks the wideout as their No. 90 overall prospect for the 2017 cycle. That they see him as the 13th best receiver in this class is just a sign of the loaded state of this class of wideouts.
  • Scout.com’s Brian Dohn writes that “there is no reason [Georgia] should be concerned” over a possible flip from four-star 2017 verbal WR commit Mark Webb.
Webb took an official visit to Penn State this past weekend, but Dohn doesn’t see that gunking up the works for Georgia. That’s Dohn’s opinion, at least, but we will toss out a “not so fast my friend” on this one. Following his weekend visit to the Nittany Lions, Webb’s father said that the aforementioned visit “made him reevaluate some things.”
  • Georgia freshman WR Mark Webb has moved to cornerback.
The four-star recruit was recruited as a receiver and played that position in camp. But last week, Webb made the trip to Notre Dame as a defensive back. He has remained on defense this week in practice.
  • Georgia sophomore DB Mark Webb tore his meniscus during spring practices, but is expected back for the fall.
A torn meniscus certainly isn’t a good thing, but Georgia coach Kirby Smart told reporters that Webb avoided a serious injury. He played in 13 games last year after switching over from wide receiver to defensive back -- mostly on special teams -- and is expected to compete for starting time at defensive back during the 2018 campaign.
