Lawrence, purely a special teamer, would have been due $1.26 million at the lowest possible tender. He’s simply not worth that kind of money. The Ravens may explore retaining Lawrence at closer to the three-year NFL minimum.

Lawrence, a key member of Baltimore’s special teams unit, had been battling a knee injury for the past couple of weeks. He’ll attempt to return next summer in a similar role.

Lawrence had emerged as a special teams coverage standout before landing on injured reserve with a knee injury in late November. He’ll return to special teams duty if he makes the team in 2010.

Lawrence had resumed practicing in November, but was never activated to the 53-man roster after tearing his ACL almost exactly a year ago. The former UMass Minuteman is a special teamer. Lawrence has four career carries.
