Michael Gaines is moving up the depth chart after Freddie Jones’ retirement.
Not a fantasy option at this point, Gaines is massive and has good hands.
  • HOU Tight End
Panthers TE Michael Gaines has passed Kris Mangum on the Carolina depth chart.
Gaines was the starter even before Mangum was hurt. Gaines is a mountain of a man and a better option in the passing game, although he’s not a fantasy option.
  • HOU Tight End
Bills signed TE Michael Gaines, formerly of the Panthers.
Gaines, a 6-4/277 pound behemoth, never met expectations with Carolina. He should be Buffalo’s third tight end behind Robert Royal and Matt Murphy.
  • HOU Tight End
Panthers waived TE Michael Gaines after coming to terms on an injury settlement.
Gaines (shoulder) was placed on the injured reserve on Sunday. The Panthers also signed former Chiefs T Kevin Sampson to the practice squad.
  • CHI Assistant GM
Jeff King opened Carolina’s training camp as a starter.
He’s got a good chance to stay there. King is more versatile than Michael Gaines and the Panthers are running a Patriots-like offense that will throw to the tight end. He’s someone to watch in fantasy leagues.
  • CHI Assistant GM
Panthers TE Jeff King has locked down the starting job.
King has good hands and size, and could become a redzone target. Watch him. Michael Gaines will be used as a blocker and Dante Rosario will fill-in and occasionally be used at fullback.
  • HOU Tight End
Panthers placed TE Michael Gaines on injured reserve with a shoulder injury, ending his season.
Gaines had lost his job to Jeff King and would most likely have been cut anyways. Rookie Donte Rosario outplayed him during training camp.
  • HOU Tight End
Michael Gaines caught two passes for 23 yards and a touchdown in Week 16.
He showed surprising speed on a key first down early in the game. Gaines has always had interesting skills at 6'3/280, but isn’t a consistent player. He should be viewed strictly as a backup when the free agency period begins.
  • HOU Tight End
After trying out for the Jets Wednesday, free agent TE Michael Gaines is slated to visit the Bears on Monday.
Chicago has been trying for two years to replace blocking ace John Gilmore. Signing Gaines wouldn’t say much for third TE Kellen Davis’ development.
  • HOU Tight End
The Jets tried out free agent TE Michael Gaines on Wednesday.
The Jets need a blocking specialist tight end behind Dustin Keller badly. Still, we’ve got to think they can do better than Gaines. Perhaps one with more potential will come available after final training camp cuts.
