Lewis, Brian Dakwins, and key reserve Quintin Mikell are in contract years. Re-signing Lewis, 26, long term should be made a priority.

With Lewis set to make $4.1 million this season, $5.7M in 2011 and $6.7M in 2012, we suspect Lewis might not have that long of a leash. The Niners just paid Patrick Willis, and need to pay Vernon Davis and Dashon Goldson. They’ll be rooting for Mays to impress in training camp.

Lewis was in obvious pain, and may have injured his ankle after making a tackle of Warrick Dunn. Lewis’ return to the game in questionable.

The injury isn’t believed to be serious. Lewis is expected to step up his participation in remaining OTAs and should be fine for training camp.

The Niners are calling the head injury “minor,” but it’s the second time Lewis has been concussed in the past 11 days. At some point, the player will have to be shut down. Lewis is a very risky draft pick in IDP leagues.
