The Saints placed Neal on injured reserve with a hamstring injury over the weekend, but did not designate him as a candidate to return. He received an injury settlement, and could potentially return to the Saints if he passes through waivers unclaimed.

Miller left practice early under his own power Tuesday, an all-too-familiar picture for the oft-injured back coming off an ACL tear from last October. However, Underhill reports it is a minor issue for the 24-year-old. With Alvin Kamara (knee) missing time, Miller has seen a lot of preseason work. Miller, when healthy, can be the Saints’ RB2 and primary handcuff to Travis Etienne.

Richardson, a 2024 fourth-round pick, started seven games in 2024 and has been a big part of Raiders special teams. He’ll try to hang on to a roster spot with the Saints.

This isn’t a surprise, as Kamara’s timeline to return per Adam Schefter as of August 19 was a month away. What was a minor surprise is that Kamara wasn’t placed on injured reserve before the start of the season. Perhaps there is still a chance he can go in Week 1, though we’d call him doubtful at this point based on the initial timeline.

In theory Tillman could put pressure on the back of the Saints wideout corps. In actuality, if they really thought that, they probably would have signed him to the active roster. Still, with only four healthy wideouts on the roster, Tillman could be elevated early. Zamir White is the other big name on the Saints practice squad and is joined by TE Stone Smartt, DE Fadil Diggs, RB CJ Donaldson, DB TJ Hall Jr., T Alan Herron, T Easton Kilty, WR Jalen Moreno-Cropper, WR Trey Palmer, LB Jackson Sirmon, K Charlie Smyth, DL Jay’Viar Suggs and T Alex Wollschlaeger

Neal has hit I.R. without a return designation, so his sophomore season is over. Of course, he could later be released with an injury settlement. The 2025 sixth-rounder managed 74 touches for the Saints’ undermanned 2025 running back group, though he was not impressive in the process. He is still only 23 years old, so he could land on someone else’s practice squad if/when the Saints cut him loose.

Tyson has been dealing with hamstring issues since his senior season at Arizona State. The issue flared up during training camp and he is now expected to be sidelined for roughly two months, as of two weeks ago. With an international game in Week 7 and a bye the following week, a Week 9 return looks like the most likely outcome for the rookie. He could still put up strong fantasy numbers in the second half of the season, but it’s hard to justify holding him in leagues with shallow benches.

Tipton will now miss at least the first four games of the season while on the PUP list. He is still recovering from a groin issue that landed him on injured reserve late in the 2025 season. With Tipton and Jordyn Tyson sidelined for the start of the season, Devaughn Vele and potentially rookie Bryce Lance will round out the team’s starting receiver trio for Week 1.

White, who had 12 carries over six games for the Raiders in 2025, won’t be on the Saints’ 53-player roster to start the season, leaving Audric Estime and Devin Neal as the team’s third and fourth backfield options, respectively. White could land in another backfield in need of depth in the coming weeks. Also waived/released by the Saints were S Terrell Burgess, DB Michael Davis, CB Isaac Yiadom, WR Ronnie Bell, DT Myles Cole, WR Jalen Cropper, S Elliott Davison, QB Hunter Dekkers, EDGE Fadil Diggs, RB CJ Donaldson, CB TJ Hall Jr., TE Cody Hardy, OT Alan Herron, OL Easton Kilty, WR Bub Means, TE Zaire Mitchell-Paden, EDGE Garrett Nelson, WR Trey Palmer, DT Kahlil Saunders, OL Torricelli Simpkins III, LB Jackson Sirmon, K Charlie Smyth, DT Jay’Viar Suggs, DT Brien Taylor, OL Xavier Truss, EDGE Malakai Williams and OT Alex Wollschlaeger.

New Orleans signed Smyth to a three-year deal last December, so it’s a bit of a surprise to see him cut so soon. One of Tanner Brown or Daniel Carson will serve as the team’s kicker this season. An Irish native, Smyth joined the league as an International Pathway player, meaning the Saints can get a roster exemption for him if they choose to keep him on their practice squad.
