Bears vs. Panthers prediction: Odds, expert picks, QB matchup, injury update, betting trends, and stats

For the first time, former No. 1 overall picks from consecutive drafts will start against one another when Caleb Williams and the Bears take on Bryce Young and the Panthers Sunday in Charlotte. Williams was the first overall selection in 2024 and Young was the first overall selection in 2023. Each quarterback and his respective team is looking to prove their playoff appearance in 2025 was no fluke.

Winners of 11 games and the NFC North in 2025, the Chicago Bears enter Year 2 under head coach Ben Johnson while the Carolina Panthers despite finishing 8-9 are looking to build on their first NFC South title since 2015.

Ben Johnson reinvigorated the franchise and elevated the play of QB Caleb Williams as the Bears won their first division title in eight years and won a playoff game for the first time in nearly two decades in 2025. As Johnson did with Williams in Chicago, Dave Canales drove the development of his quarterback, Bryce Young who threw for over 3000 yards for the first time in his career as the Panthers earned a playoff berth for the first time in nearly a decade.

Storylines to watch include the play in the trenches. Williams was sacked just 24 times last season. If he is kept upright, he will test the mettle of a revamped Panthers’ defense. While Bryce Young’s season was not as prolific, he showed flashes that he can be a winning quarterback in the NFL. The Bears are not expected to have a stingy defense, but Carolina has suffered injuries along the offensive line already this year. In addition, Chicago excelled at generating takeaways last season. Young’s ability to avoid sacks and costly turnovers will be pivotal for the Panthers.

Let’s dive into the numbers and see if we can’t find a sweat or two.
