No one predicted the Browns (5-2) would be tied for first in the AFC North heading into Week 8 of the NFL season, but here they sit as they prepare to play the Steelers (5-2) in Pittsburgh this Sunday. Cleveland has won five of its last six after beating Tennessee 27-24 last Sunday, while Pittsburgh enters on a three-game winning streak following a 16-10 victory over New Orleans in the NFL’s first regular-season game in Paris. The matchup also comes only a month after Cleveland beat Pittsburgh 27-24 on October 1.
Last week, Cleveland again showed an ability to win late in their game against Tennessee. After falling behind 14-0 in the first quarter, the Browns rallied behind Quinshon Judkins, who rushed for 96 yards and two touchdowns, and rookie KC Concepcion, who caught eight passes for 129 yards. Deshaun Watson delivered perhaps his best performance of the season, completing 25 of 36 passes for 308 yards while adding a nine-yard rushing touchdown. After Tennessee tied the game with 58 seconds remaining, Watson immediately answered, hitting Harold Fannin Jr. for 36 yards to help set up Andre Szmyt’s game-winning 32-yard field goal as time expired. It was Watson’s fifth fourth-quarter winning drive of the season.
Pittsburgh’s latest win was less dramatic but built around the combination it hopes can carry them to a division title and a playoff berth: Aaron Rodgers, an effective running game and a defense capable of closing out tight games. Rodgers completed 19 of 30 passes for 212 yards and a touchdown against New Orleans, including a four-yard score to Darnell Washington that gave him 540 career touchdown passes and moved him past Peyton Manning into third place in NFL history. Jaylen Warren supplied 101 rushing yards on 18 carries. The Pittsburgh defense held the Saints to just 18 rushing yards and Payton Wilson produced a red-zone interception.
The biggest storyline may simply be whether Pittsburgh can reverse what happened in Cleveland four weeks earlier. In that Oct. 1 meeting, the Browns built a 21-7 advantage before Rodgers led a fourth-quarter comeback, eventually tying the game at 24 on his three-yard touchdown pass to Pat Freiermuth and ensuing two-point run. Watson then went 4-for-5 for 46 yards on Cleveland’s final drive, positioning Szmyt for a 56-yard field goal with 10 seconds remaining to give the Browns a 27-24 victory. Watson finished with 268 passing yards, one touchdown and one interception, while Rodgers threw for 299 yards and three touchdowns but was intercepted twice; DK Metcalf added 115 receiving yards and Warren ran for 93. That first meeting established the template for Sunday: division rivals comfortable playing close games led by veteran quarterbacks who have repeatedly delivered late, and a Browns team trying to complete an improbable season sweep against a Steelers club returning home looking to reclaim the upper hand in the AFC North.

Here are the best bets our model is projecting for Sunday’s game between the Browns and the Steelers:
- Moneyline: NBC Sports is staying away from a play on the Moneyline.
- Spread: NBC Sports is leaning towards a play on the Browns +3.5.
- Total: NBC Sports is recommending a play on the Game Total UNDER 39.5.
Here’s why the Total UNDER 39.5 is the best bet:
The situational and statistical case says this game should land well below 39. Both offenses are genuinely broken in the red zone. Cleveland ranks 27th in touchdown percentage (3.1%), 28th in points scored (19.0 per game), 30th in third-down conversion rate (32.58%), and 32nd in sack rate allowed (11.85%) with 25 sacks taken, most in the NFL. The Browns have run just 10.1% of their offensive plays in the red zone this season — worst in the NFL — and they’re averaging 8.0 drives per touchdown in the second half since 2025, worst in the league. Pittsburgh’s defense is the perfect foil. The Steelers rank 3rd in touchdown percentage allowed (2.59%), 5th in points allowed (19.71 per game), 3rd in touchdowns allowed (11), 5th in passing touchdowns allowed (1.0 per game), 7th in rushing touchdowns allowed (0.57 per game), and 6th in yards per carry allowed (3.75). They’ve allowed opponents to run just 9.5% of plays in the red zone this season — 2nd-best in the NFL. The situational splits are equally ugly for the Over. The Browns have averaged -0.09 EPA per play in the second half since Week 4 — 5th-worst in the NFL — while the Steelers have allowed just -0.17 EPA per play in the second half since Week 4, 2nd-best. Pittsburgh’s defense has allowed -0.18 EPA per play in the second half this season, 2nd-best in the league.
Top Player Prop: Browns vs. Steelers
Jaylen Warren Anytime Touchdown
The best prop on the board, and the volume case is the reason. Warren carried 18 times for 101 yards (5.6 yards per carry) in Pittsburgh’s Week 7 win over New Orleans, and he’s the clear lead back in an offense that has run the ball on just 28% of its red-zone plays — the lowest rate in the league, which means when they do hand it off near the goal line, it’s him. The structural argument is what makes this playable. Pittsburgh ranks 32nd in rushing touchdowns (0.14 per game) — they’ve scored exactly one rushing touchdown all season — which means regression is coming, and Warren is the back who gets those carries. Against a Cleveland defense that ranks 5th in rushing touchdowns allowed (0.57 per game), the volume is the bet rather than the history.
