The NFL heads to Australia for the nation’s first regular-season game as the San Francisco 49ers face the Los Angeles Rams to open up their 2026 seasons.
The 49ers vs Rams game will take place on Friday, September 11, at 10:35 AM local time, which will be 8:35 PM ET on Thursday. September 10, exclusively on Netflix.

San Francisco 49ers vs LA Rams Game Preview:
Thursday’s game marks the first time the 49ers and Rams have faced off in a season opener since 2016.
Both teams made the playoffs last year, finishing 12-5 in the regular season, and were eliminated by the Super Bowl Champion Seahawks.
The No. 6-seeded 49ers defeated the Eagles in the Wild Card round before suffering a 41-6 blowout loss to Seattle in the Divisional Round.
One of the biggest questions surrounding San Francisco this season is whether its key players can stay healthy.
Last season, QB Brock Purdy missed eight games with shoulder/toe injuries, while EDGE rusher Nick Bosa (ACL) and LB Fred Warner (ankle) suffered season-ending injuries.
RB Christian McCaffrey, who played in all 17 games for the first time since 2022, delivered one of the best seasons of his career. He was named Comeback Player of the Year after recording 2,126 yards from scrimmage (1,202 rush yds & 924 rec yds). It was the second-most in the NFL behind Atlanta’s RB Bijan Robinson.
San Francisco has bolstered its offense with the additions of six-time Pro Bowl WR Mike Evans, Christian Kirk, and Deebo Samuel.
The 49ers look to win their first Super Bowl since the 1994 season and the first of head coach Kyle Shanahan’s tenure.

After finishing second in the NFC West and clinching the No. 5 seed, the Rams defeated the Panthers in the Wild Card Round and the Bears in OT of the Divisional Round before losing 31-27 to Seattle in the NFC Championship Game.
The Rams led the NFL in points per game (30.5) and total offense (394.6 yds/game), with QB Matthew Stafford being named league MVP.
Stafford, who’s entering his 18th career season, led the league in touchdown passes (46), passing yards (4,707), and touchdown-to-interception ratio (5.8).
WR Puka Nacua recorded career highs in receptions (129), receiving yards (1,715), and touchdown catches (10).
WR Davante Adams led the NFL with 14 TD catches.

Defensively, the Rams made big moves this off-season by acquiring reigning Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett and bringing back three-time Defensive Player of the Year Aaron Donald, who returns after two years of retirement.
