San Francisco was already dominating Seattle with a 21-3 lead late in the second quarter.
But then things for the Seahawks got even worse, allowing the 49ers to take a 24-3 lead into halftime.
Running back DeeJay Dallas muffed a punt return that San Francisco recovered at Seattle’s 22-yard line. But head coach Kyle Shanahan elected to kick a 32-yard field goal on fourth-and-2 at the 14, giving San Francisco a 21-point advantage.
The Niners didn’t give their fans much to complain about throughout the first half. Christian McCaffrey rushed for a 1-yard and an 8-yard touchdown in the second quarter. Receiver Deebo Samuel opened the scoring with a 2-yard touchdown run to cap the team’s first possession.
McCaffrey has 87 yards on 15 carries. Samuel leads with five catches for 70 yards.
With Geno Smith nursing an ailing elbow and top running back Kenneth Walker inactive with an oblique injury, Seattle’s offense struggled mightily throughout the first half. The team’s first five possessions netted just 15 yards and one first down.
They scored their first three points because returner Dee Eskridge took a kickoff 66 yards to the San Francisco 33. But when the club couldn’t move the chains, Jason Myers hit a 51-yard field goal.
The offense showed some life late in the second quarter, getting a couple of first downs to set up a 53-yard field goal. But Myers’ field goal was wide right.
At the break, the 49ers hold dominant advantages in first downs (16-3), total yards (225-56), and time of possession (22:31-7:29).
Seattle cornerback Riq Woolen was benched for cornerback Michael Jackson during the first half.
Seahawks offensive lineman Jason Peters, who started at right tackle tonight, had to be examined in the medical tent just before halftime.
Seattle will receive the second-half kickoff.
